Fair Isle Knitting – Saturday 28 September 2024 (2-5pm) York

Fair Isle knitting can be described as knitting a repeating pattern or design using 2 colours in the same row.

You will learn the techniques needed to get started with 2-colour knitting (or more colours, if you like).

The session begins with learning about and practising stranding and weaving the yarns at the back of the work.

Then you will learn how to follow a chart. And you explore different colour combinations, inspired by tutor Judith Schur.

In class, you will produce a small sampler. Then you will receive an exclusive pattern for a cushion cover to practice your new skills at home.

Skill Level
If you can both knit and purl stitch with confidence you are ready to progress to Fair Isle knitting.

Equipment needed
Please bring a selection of needles to use on the practise piece (3.25, 3.5, 4, 4.5 & 5 would be a good selection to bring along)

Tutor Judith Schur has loved knitting since she was a child and previously had her own yarn shop. She has a City and Guilds trained in Hand Knitting and Design and is passionate about sharing the knowledge and skills needed to get everyone knitting.

Each participant receives a 10% off voucher to spend online or put towards another workshop.

Access notice: there are two flights of stairs to the workroom in our medieval building at 32 Coppergate, York YO1 9NR. We sincerely apologise if this prevents anyone from attending.
