What is Corozo?
Corozo is a 100% natural product which is similar in consistancy to a hard resin. Also known as tagua, it is often referred to as ‘vegetable ivory’. At a mircroscopic level, corozo is made up of very tightly wound organic fibers which gives it excellent durability and scratch resistance. Its porous nature allows colours to penetrate deep into the surface which makes it an excellent material for dyeing. Corozo is also well known for its elegant natural grain; a unique pattern that, much like a fingerprint, ensures that no two buttons are exactly alike.

Origin & Sustainability of Corozo:
Corozo originates from Tagua nuts which grow on Tropical Palm trees, most commonly found in Ecuador. The nut themselves are 1-2 inches in diameter and a single tree can produce hundreds of nuts in just one year. The harvesting of these nuts provides a living for hundreds of people in the local villages. They are a great material for button production as they are protecting endangered rainforest lands whilst providing economic stability for local communities.

Polite notice:
As our buttons come from all over the world and are made from a variety of materials and treatments, we can’t guarantee they’re washable or able to tumble dry. To keep them looking their best, we recommend treating them with care. Mother of pearl buttons are delicate and best hand washed, while wooden buttons may become more fragile with washing. Plastic and metal buttons are sturdier, but anything with a coating could get damaged in a machine wash or tumble dryer. Thank you for understanding!
